Description¶
A core Springboard Summer strategy is developing parents as teachers: the program's stated goal is "Developing parents as teachers by training them to be effective one-on-one reading coaches at home." Each site offers four to five family workshops (four main workshops plus a potential make-up session), and Springboard sets a participation target of attending 80 percent or more of the scheduled workshops as sufficient for engagement and program success.
Design Implications¶

Requirements¶
- Weekly family workshops offered at each site, with home visits and make-up sessions to accommodate parents

- In the evaluation, family workshop attendance showed no significant association with reading growth, which the report attributes to minimal variation because 88 percent of families met the target
Target Learners¶
- Parents and family members of rising kindergarten through fourth grade scholars

- Effective one-on-one reading coaching at home
- Cultivating children's reading habits
