Description¶
To raise the quality of students' answers to elaborative interrogation questions, the article proposes two approaches. The first is "practice training, in which students receive examples of what types of answers are expected of them", providing a model that could improve answer quality. The second is providing feedback on answers, directly, through peers working collaboratively after training, or through computer-based tutoring, which could also motivate students to construct high-quality answers.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Students need examples of what types of answers are expected, and feedback on their answers
Constraints¶
- The article frames these as proposals for future studies and pedagogical contexts; positive effects of elaborative interrogation might be seen only if these ideas effectively improve answer quality
Target Learners¶
- undergraduate students
Target Learning Goals¶
- making connections among ideas in a written lesson; learning probabilistic reasoning
