Provide professional learning opportunities and free tools to support educators in conducting edtech pilot studies¶

Description¶
The report recommends that organizations support educators' data collection for adoption decisions by continuing to "provide professional learning opportunities along with free tools and resources to support educators in conducting pilot studies." This capacity-building strategy responds to the survey's finding that educators value piloting but that skill, not will, is the limiting factor, and it is the strategy Digital Promise pursues through the Edtech Pilot Framework, pilot studies, and webinars.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Organizations able to offer professional learning and free piloting tools and resources
Constraints¶
- Self-reported survey evidence; the report notes no clear coach or expert currently exists to support districts in acquiring analysis and interpretation skills
Target Learners¶
- K-12 educators
- education leaders and district administrators
Target Learning Goals¶
- Skills to conduct, analyze, and interpret pilot evidence for edtech adoption and procurement decisions
Related Strategies¶
- Maintain professional development and educator collaboration throughout an edtech pilot
- Conduct ed-tech pilots by articulating the instructional need, setting clear product-review criteria, involving educators in planning, supporting educators throughout, gathering data from all users, deciding from data, negotiating purchasing options, and sharing results
- Mobilize & Implement: provide professional learning throughout the pilot and use real-time data dashboards to keep usage aligned with dosage requirements
- Build formal feedback mechanisms and an evaluation plan into ed-tech pilots
