Description¶
The article recommends that lecturers use a QCGE self-assessment to gain information about the quality of collaborative work in learning groups, e.g. as formative evaluation at group level. It further proposes that "a QCGE self-assessment could be used as a basis for adapting and developing learning processes within learning groups and could usefully be integrated into group-awareness tools" or automated group engagement feedback tools, giving groups an opportunity to reflect on and regulate their group processes.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A standardised, easy-to-use self-assessment measure of group-level engagement, such as the QCGE-SAS
Constraints¶
- Subjective and observation-based ratings of the same group can diverge, so self-assessment is proposed as one perspective within multi-method approaches, not a replacement for observation
Target Learners¶
- student learning groups in higher education
Target Learning Goals¶
- reflection on and regulation of group processes leading to better group learning outcomes
Affordances¶
- Qcge Framework Four Dimensions
Claims¶
- Construct validity of the QCGE-SAS is supported by significant correlations between its subscales and pre-validated related scales [+W]
- Behavioural, cognitive and conceptual-to-consequential subscales of the QCGE-SAS show acceptable reliability, while the social engagement subscale shows unacceptable internal consistency [~W]
