Investigate teachers' and learners' 'emic' perspectives on MALL to identify obstacles to integration¶
Strategy · All strategies
Evidence · no claims cited
Description¶
The review recommends that future MALL research explore teachers' and learners' perspectives, because MALL's application "highly relies on the general consensus from language teachers and learners" and there is a "lack of pedagogical framework of MA LL". It argues that finding out 'emic' views from users in educational contexts would be meaningful, and that factors identified from teachers and learners can be viewed as current obstacles to overcome toward successful integration of new MALL technologies, as well as indicators of where the field stands on the continuum toward a new stage of MALL.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Research designs that elicit teachers' and learners' own perspectives on MALL use in educational contexts
Constraints¶
- The review states promising results may be challenging to indicate prevailing trends of MALL in a definite way
Target Learners¶
- language teachers and language learners in educational contexts
Target Learning Goals¶
- successful integration of emerging mobile technologies into language education
Related Strategies¶
- Prioritize research on app design quality, user behaviour, appsmashing, normalization, and attainment outcomes
- Integrate pronunciation-focused technology such as language learning apps and mobile-assisted pronunciation training into the CLT curriculum
