Researcher-oriented GenAI guidelines that foreground each AI literacy dimension across diverse research tasks¶

Description¶
Building on PGR students' practices and support expectations, the study proposed a two-layered framework of researcher-oriented GenAI guidelines intended as an "illustrative and adaptable basis" for supporting responsible GenAI use. Each research task is addressed through content tied to every dimension of AI literacy, moving beyond rule enforcement toward developmental scaffolding of researchers' AI literacy across disciplinary and institutional contexts.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Guidelines must function as developmental supports cultivating AI literacy over time, not solely as regulatory instruments.
- Task-sensitive support is needed to translate general principles into situated day-to-day research decisions.
Constraints¶
- Existing policies remain largely principle-based and weighted toward teaching, learning and assessment, offering little guidance for Use & Apply or Evaluate & Create dimensions.
Target Learners¶
- postgraduate research students
- researchers in higher education
Target Learning Goals¶
- responsible GenAI use across the full research process
- situated ethical judgement about GenAI use in research
Affordances¶
- Four Dimensional Ai Literacy Framework Research Context
