Teach literacy skills in every classroom across all content areas with common rubrics¶

Description¶
A schoolwide approach in which every teacher, not only English or mathematics teachers, is responsible for teaching and reinforcing defined literacy skills: reading, writing, speaking, and reasoning. The report describes how BHS "adopted a concerted focus on reading and writing in all classrooms with clear rubrics for teachers to use to evaluate and monitor student performance." Teachers received differentiated training in teaching literacy in their content areas, plus training in Socratic seminars, group work, and project-based learning, and an implementation calendar ensured every student had repeated practice.
Design Implications¶

Target Learning Goals¶
- reading
- writing
- speaking
- reasoning
