Engaging practitioners through an advisory board, co-design office hours, and guiding-principles publications¶

Description¶
After finding a common practitioner database across DLPs unlikely and footprint reports risky for customer information, SEERNet adopted a broader engagement approach that engages educators rather than merely identifying them. Digital Promise "Published Practitioners at the Center: Catalyzing Research on Problems of Practice in Realistic Settings," hosted conversational Office Hours where researchers and practitioners co-designed research questions, and launched a SEERNet practitioner advisory board to engage K-12 educators in conversations about meaningful research and dissemination. Wave 3 plans extend this to higher education.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Respect each DLP's distinct modes of engagement with schools; customer information release restrictions shaped the design
Constraints¶
- Practitioner engagement so far has been easiest to imagine in K-12 and needs expansion to higher education over time
Target Learners¶
- K-12 educators and leaders
- higher education practitioners over time
Target Learning Goals¶
- shaping research questions toward practical problems of practice
- broadening dissemination and impact of research findings
