Description¶
Educators are advised to learn about health resources in their schools and communities and share them with students and families. The brief notes that many school-based health centers are "underutilized because students lack awareness of their existence and the health care services they offer," and that for schools without SBHCs, lack of awareness of broader community resources also contributes to underutilization. It advises paying particular attention to youth-friendly local resources (Desiderio, 2014).
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Educators first learn about the health resources that exist within their schools and communities
Constraints¶
- Many SBHCs are underutilized because students lack awareness, are not comfortable using the resources, or feel they do not need the services
Target Learners¶
- K-12 students and their families, including English Learners
Target Learning Goals¶
- Awareness of and access to age-appropriate healthcare services
Related Strategies¶
