Description¶
The article's relational co-agency recommendation: assignment prompts, not individual students, should define the human-AI division of labor. In the Section 4.5 illustration, 'the assignment prompt specifying which tasks could be delegated to the AI (e.g., summarizing individual sources) and which could not (e.g., creating an argument linking all the individual sources to the research question).' This makes the division of labor transparent and is one of the two stated requirements for relational co-agency.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Transparent description of who decided which tasks are assigned to AI versus students
Constraints¶
- The article notes answers are not universal; a First-Year Writing course and a doctoral research methods course will define labor differently
Target Learners¶
- undergraduate students
Target Learning Goals¶
- academic writing
- epistemic agency
Affordances¶
- Ecological Co Agency Framework
Related Strategies¶
- Institutions should define generative-AI prohibitions by function, distinguish generation from format conversion, and require validated evidential methods before sanctions
- Allocate human and AI effort by dimension type: automate explicit-criteria dimensions, retain human review for pedagogical judgment
