Use a multi-stage screening tool (SSBD) to nominate and rank at-risk students for behavioral intervention¶

Description¶
The program and its studies identify participants through a standardized multi-stage screening procedure. Teachers "use a screening tool to nominate students and rate their behavior using a standardized scale and definition of antisocial behavior." In Walker et al. (2009), the SSBD was used to identify the child with the highest average ranking across Stage 2 adaptive and maladaptive behavior ratings in each classroom. The SSBD itself is "a nationally normed, multistage assessment approach" combining teacher rankings, rating scales, and observation.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Teachers complete standardized rating scales (Stage 2 of the SSBD) and observations to rank students by severity
Constraints¶
- Designed for identifying children exhibiting the most severe behavioral concerns within each classroom at school entry or early grades
Target Learners¶
- Kindergarten through third-grade students at risk for antisocial behavior
Target Learning Goals¶
- Accurate identification of students needing early behavioral intervention
