Description¶
STARI connects basic-skills instruction to cognitively challenging content rather than teaching skills in isolation. The program "directly links work on component skills—decoding, fluency, and morphological analysis—with cognitively challenging unit themes," and to promote interest and engagement, decoding and morphological analysis strategies are taught with words connected to STARI unit themes. Units are chosen to be interesting and of relevance and importance in young adolescents' lives.
