Description¶
This strategy pairs a state education agency with a regional educational laboratory to supply analytic support for policy guidance. In May 2020 the Pennsylvania Department of Education approached its partners at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Educational Laboratory "to provide analytic support for their guidance" as schools planned Fall 2020 reopening policies and procedures for mitigating COVID-19 spread and ensuring student and staff safety.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- An existing partnership between the state education agency and the regional laboratory, as PDE had with REL Mid-Atlantic
Constraints¶
- Applied to planning for re-opening in Fall 2020 during COVID-19 building closures statewide since March 2020
Target Learners¶
- K-12 students in Pennsylvania public schools
Target Learning Goals¶
- Safe continuation of instruction during pandemic conditions, including remote instruction and mitigation of COVID-19 spread
Related Strategies¶
- Develop or update continuity of learning plans using evidence-based and promising practices to prepare for blended learning and possible school closures
- When planning for the school year during COVID-19, schools and districts should weigh public health factors alongside educational factors such as potential learning loss
- Use district-level analyses of health condition prevalence, supports, and outcomes to inform an action plan for equitably supporting students with health conditions
