A proposed but not yet classroom-evaluated extension: have students write and refine the measurement-application prompt themselves¶

Description¶
The authors propose a natural extension in which students write and refine the prompt for a measurement application themselves. They argue that deciding which quantities a measurement application should display requires students to identify in advance the relevant variables, the expected functional dependences, and what would constitute a meaningful comparison between measurement channels. This extension has not yet been evaluated in the classroom.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Students would need to decide which quantities the measurement application should display before generating it
Constraints¶
- The article states this extension has not yet been evaluated in the classroom
Target Learners¶
- introductory physics students
Target Learning Goals¶
- identifying relevant variables and expected functional dependences before measurement
