Combine scripting with awareness measures to tailor collaboration scripts to the dyad¶

Description¶
Building on the finding that scripting and awareness prompts were kept as separate conditions, the editors propose that researchers go beyond affirming possible positive effects and guide designers on how and when to invoke them. They suggest combining the two experimental conditions and tailoring the script to the dyad based on awareness measures of the collaboration process, which they say could discover an effective synthesis.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Knowledge of how and when to invoke particular interventions in concrete situations
Constraints¶
- Multiple interventions can interfere with each other or result in over-scripting (Dillenbourg 2002)
- Students at specific ages, knowledge, aptitudes, and social relations may not be responsive to selected prompts
Target Learners¶
- elementary school dyads
- collaborative learning groups
Target Learning Goals¶
- collaborative discourse quality
- shared diagram construction
Related Strategies¶
- Target the development of collaborative diagnostic activities with adaptive collaboration scripts and group awareness tools
- Sequence CSCL research on human-AI knowledge construction from exploratory observation to experimental variable manipulation
