Description¶
Rather than only describing existing activities, the taxonomy can be used generatively — the article states that "the taxonomy can serve as a prompt to stimu- late educators' imagination about GenAI activities." Two of the five tested examples (Ball Game Fundamentals and GenAI Fluency in Post-Crisis Analysis) were constructed using the taxonomy as inspiration. In constructing these activities, the authors found "the taxonomy helped us capture and navigate our discussions and prompted us to consider aspects of the activity which we might otherwise have left out."
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Educators need familiarity with the six categories and their available terms
- Openness to combining categories in novel ways
Constraints¶
- Constructed activities should still be tested against the taxonomy to reveal unconsidered aspects
Target Learners¶
- school students
- higher education students
Target Learning Goals¶
- designing new GenAI learning activities
- ensuring comprehensive consideration of activity dimensions
Affordances¶
Claims¶
- Collaborative testing shows the taxonomy enables comparison between similar GenAI activities while inevitably falling short of portraying all entangled aspects [~W] (the taxonomy supports comparison but cannot capture every entangled aspect)
Related Strategies¶
- Extended Taxonomy Design Process (ETDP): the process by which the taxonomy was built and tested
