Description¶
Based on the finding that different types of homework assistance relate differently to children's task persistence, the authors recommend that teachers help parents choose appropriate ways to support homework. They state that "Teachers are the key persons in giving guidance to parents on how to support their children with their individual needs in homework situations", suggest giving parents concrete examples of different assistance types and their motivational influence, and propose family meetings where parents and child discuss learning goals and the best ways of supporting learning at home.

Claims¶
- Maternal autonomy granting in Grade 2 positively predicts children's task persistence in Grade 3, but not from Grade 3 to Grade 4 [+W]
- Maternal help in Grade 2 negatively predicts children's task persistence in Grade 3, with no prediction from Grade 3 to Grade 4 [+W]
- Weak indirect effects link Grade 2 autonomy granting and help to Grade 4 performance via Grade 3 task persistence; monitoring and reverse indirect effects are not significant [+W]
