Teacher-as-researcher experimental design via Terracotta in Canvas¶

Description¶
Terracotta "puts the teacher in the role of researcher": within their own Canvas course, instructors can implement many types of activities to manipulate inputs relevant to their unique learning context. Centering practitioners affords rapid testing of hypotheses around a particular assignment and the flexibility to replicate an intervention in another activity, course, or sample. This is one of five SEERNet RDI engineering efforts and addresses the challenge of experimenting while preserving authentic classroom environments.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Instructors must work within their own Canvas course using the Terracotta tool
Constraints¶
Target Learners¶
- Higher education and K-12 students in instructors' Canvas courses
Target Learning Goals¶
- Testing contextually relevant research questions about teaching and learning interventions
