Support facilitator uptake of co-regulation through in-person training plus biweekly coaching calls and classroom site visits¶

Description¶
The study's support model paired initial and refresher in-person trainings for facilitators and program administrators with ongoing coaching: "The study team also held biweekly coaching calls to provide ongoing support and troubleshooting and visited programs to observe facilitators using the strategies over the two semesters". Coaches helped sites plan where to use strategies in lessons, tailor them to context, and reflect on successes and challenges. Facilitators reported that planning, practicing, and time to think through implementation were the most helpful parts of the training.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Both facilitators and program administrators attend training; coaching teams meet regularly to share lessons learned across sites
Constraints¶
- Support intensity (biweekly calls, two visits per semester) reflects this study's design and may not generalize to programs without equivalent coaching resources
Target Learners¶
- SRAE facilitators and program administrators serving high school-age youth
Target Learning Goals¶
- co-regulation strategy implementation
- facilitation quality
Affordances¶
Related Strategies¶
- Brief initial training with extensive follow-up coaching and on-site facilitation for whole-school program implementation
- Weeklong initial teacher training with biweekly follow-up meetings for delivering the fraction intervention
- Implement World of Words with developer training, ongoing coaching, and structured text-set materials
- Sustained professional development model combining training days, site visits, observations, and ongoing coaching
