Use individual and group Stages of Concern data to tailor inservice and training decisions¶

Description¶
The article recommends that facilitators of change use Stages of Concern data to learn what teachers are most concerned about at a given point in time regarding a program, product, or idea, and to plan interventions accordingly. It stresses that "it is important to consider individual as well as group SoC data, particularly when making inservice and training decisions," since aggregated data can obscure meaningful individual differences. The author illustrates this with two teachers whose follow-up input sessions after the 1975 workshop should have been planned quite differently.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Administration of the SoC Questionnaire at relevant time points to obtain individual and group concern profiles before planning inservice activities.
Constraints¶
- At the time of writing, what the adoption agent does with SoC data is determined by his or her judgment; understanding which interventions fit specific concerns is named as an important next step in the research.
Target Learners¶
- elementary school teachers implementing a new curriculum
Target Learning Goals¶
- matching inservice support and interventions to teachers' current concerns
