Description¶
State education agencies can administer a voluntary school climate survey to any school in the state and use the resulting scores longitudinally to monitor climate trends and flag schools needing additional support. In this article, PDE's survey served both functions, and its multi-year data enabled analysis of pandemic-era changes in climate perceptions.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Consistent survey administration across multiple years by the same schools to support longitudinal comparison.
Constraints¶
- Voluntary participation yields a small, non-representative sample, limiting generalization of findings.
Target Learners¶
- K-12 students
- teachers
Target Learning Goals¶
- school climate monitoring and improvement
Related Strategies¶
- Revise the safe and respectful school climate domain of the elementary school student survey to improve its internal consistency reliability
- Add two or three college aspiration and expectation questions to existing school climate surveys to flag students needing readiness supports
