Revise professional learning materials and structure in response to pilot feedback¶

Description¶
The report describes concrete revisions made for the 2024/25 efficacy study based on teacher and coach feedback: materials were housed in NMPED's Canvas platform, one-page overviews and vignettes were added for each practice, materials now "more explicitly describe how practices can apply to a variety of genres," supports for novice coaches were included, and materials were updated to "better support teachers to work as a team when a coach is not available." Clearer guidance emphasizes planning ahead and scheduling trainings in advance, and coach logs were revised with reminders for timely completion.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Teacher and coach feedback collected during a pilot implementation to identify feasibility and usability problems
Constraints¶
- The one-page overviews were piloted only during spring implementation; genre applicability concerns arose because materials initially did not apply to all text genres
Target Learners¶
- Grade 4-8 teachers
Target Learning Goals¶
- Effective implementation of evidence-based writing instruction practices
Related Strategies¶
- Maintain professional development and educator collaboration throughout an edtech pilot
- Phase the intervention through cohorts that move from development to usability/feasibility testing to efficacy testing
