Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i? In a logistic regression, achievement level predicted material choice while ethnic background did not. → Sabine Schlag 2024

q3 · i? · causal · r2
Logistic regression in the 2×2 between-subject vignette study with 177 preservice teachers. Achievement level predicted choosing video versus text; ethnic background did not (p = .531). Low achievers received the video 84.23% of the time; high achievers received the text 72.22% of the time.
"This analysis showed that only achievement level, B = 3.42, SE(B) = 0.50, Exp(B) = 30.52), p < .001, and not ethnic background, B = 0.27, SE(B) = 0.43, Exp(B) = 1.31, p = .531, predicted the material choice (Nagelkerke R 2 = 0.51)."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- Preservice teachers judged the ethnic minority student more negatively than the ethnic majority student on parental support, achievement, and working behavior
- Preservice teachers chose the easy video significantly more often for an ethnic minority student than for an ethnic majority student, all other information being equal — reports the opposite
- Path analysis showed material choice reasons tracked attributions: text was chosen for perceived high ability and effort, video for low evaluations of both — related
- Simply inserting a name indicating Turkish-origin background produced less favorable judgments of otherwise identical student descriptions — related
