q3 i? Both the combined method (from average 5.5 to 17.6) and the predominantly visual silent method (from average 5.7 to 15.8) produced substantial improvement in spelling after 40 minutes of practice spread over four days. → Winch 1913

In the same 53-boy experiment, the preliminary test averages were 5.5 (Set A) and 5.7 (Set B); after four 10-minute practice periods the final test averages rose to 17.6 and 15.8 respectively. The author describes this as "an enormous improvement" in both cases.
"It seems also, and this we must not forget, that they were both good methods, for an enormous improvement has been shown in both cases, an improvement due to 40 minutes practice for each set, spread out over 4 days."
