Subclaims¶
Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q2 i3 BRD groups added more words to the original articles than DDR (r = .58), while DDR articles showed fewer errors per 100 words (r = .64), and article length correlated with relative error rate (rs(18) = .48, p = .017). → Heimbuch 2018
q2 i3 The article-relative error-rate difference favoured the DDR group in the main study (r = .64). → Heimbuch 2018 (2)

Heimbuch, S., Ollesch, L., & Bodemer, D. (2018). Comparing effects of two collaboration scripts on learning activities for wiki-based environments. University of Duisburg-Essen. https://doi.org/10.1007/s11412-018-9283-0

Man-Whitney comparison of added article words in the main-study DokuWiki field experiment: BRD Mdn = 353.50 vs DDR Mdn = 105.00, r = .58 as printed.
"We also found that the BRD group added more words ( Mdn = 353.50) to the original articles than the DDR group ( Mdn = 105.00), U = 87.00, p = .012, r = .58, 95% CI [.24, .80]."

In the same main-study wiki log analysis, DDR articles had fewer errors per 100 words (Mdn = 0.90 vs 1.75, p = .007, r = .64). The authors add a positive length-error correlation, rs(18) = .48, p = .017, supporting this test.
"A direct group comparison of the relative error rate per 100 words shows a major difference in favour of the DDR group (Mdn = 0.90 for DDR, Mdn = 1.75 for BRD), U = 82.00, p = .007, r =.64, 95% CI [.31, .83]."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- In the main study, the DDR script induced far more talk-page discussion contributions and fewer article edits than the BRD script
- In the main study, learning gains from pre-test to post-test were not directly influenced by the collaboration script, though all students improved significantly over time
- Wikipedia's bold-edit collaboration script led to lower article quality than a discussion-first alternative script — related
- In the main study, wiki contribution frequency indirectly mediated the effect of script on post-test learning, while the direct script effect was not significant — related
