Subclaims¶
Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i? DD children performed worse than controls on visuo-spatial STM (Dot Matrix) and visuo-spatial WM (OOO Recall, OOO Processing) measures. → Szucs Denes 2013

Szucs Denes 2013¶
Szucs Denes, Devine Amy, Soltesz Fruzsina, Nobes Alison, Gabriel Florence. (2013). Developmental dyscalculia is related to visuo-spatial memory and inhibition impairment. Cortex, 49(10). https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cortex.2013.06.007

Case-control comparison of 12 DD and 12 matched control children (selected from 1004 screened) on standardized AWMA subtests; permutation testing and bootstrapped 95% confidence intervals showed the "DD group performed worse than the control group" on all three visuo-spatial measures.
"The two groups differed on measures of visuo-spatial STM (Dot Matrix) and WM (OOO Recall, OOO Processing). 95% bootstrapped confidence intervals were robustly below zero for each measure showing a significant group difference"
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- Verbal STM/WM and several executive and sensorimotor measures show no robust relation with math in children with normal reading skill — related
- Short-term memory task profiles differ by age: 7–8-year-olds show no verbal–spatial difference, while 9–10-year-olds show a verbal > visuo-spatial > motor gradient. — related
- Phonological decoding, verbal knowledge, visuo-spatial STM/WM, spatial orientation and trail-making performance are robust simultaneous predictors of math in 9-year-olds — related
- Spatial processing is preserved but slower in developmental dyscalculia, with slow trail-making and mental rotation speed attributed to WM/inhibition impairment — related
- Visuo-spatial working memory and inhibition jointly predict mathematics performance in 9–10-year-old children — related
- In pure developmental dyscalculia with normal reading and verbal IQ, verbal short-term and working memory are intact — related
