Subclaims¶
Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i1 The numerical distance effect did not differ between dyslexia and control groups, indicating no significant deficits in understanding numerical magnitudes. → Bert De Smedt 2010

Nonsymbolic magnitude comparison control task (72 dot-array trials) in the dyslexia-control study; per-individual regression slopes of reaction time on numerical distance were compared. Accuracy was at ceiling in both groups (M = 98% dyslexia, M = 97% controls); the small intercept difference disappeared when motor choice reaction time was controlled (F(1, 47) = 1.41, p = .24).
"There was no significant difference in the slope between participants with dyslexia and controls ( t(48) = 0.69, p = .49, d = 0.20), indicating that the distance effect was the same in both groups."

Related Claims¶
- DD children's deficit in non-symbolic number magnitude processing appears only in studies of older children (10 years and above), not younger ones
- Non-symbolic magnitude processing shows mixed associations with inhibition measures
- Adults with DD show deficient time/duration processing but preserved length processing, with mixed findings across studies — related
- Adults with DD rely on time-consuming back-up strategies like finger usage for single-digit arithmetic, with prolonged response latencies that appear number-specific — related
- Adults with DD show deficient conceptual size processing with preserved physical size processing, supporting shared magnitude substrates — related
- Distance estimation is preserved in adults with developmental dyscalculia — related
