q2 i? Compared to initial learner models, resultant learner models after interactive open learner modelling included more beliefs about the learner, and most were approved by both learners and the finance terminology teacher. → Vania Dimitrova & Paul Brna 2016

User study in the EU LARFLAST project with university students of varying finance knowledge; STyLE-OLM was invoked after an initial learner model was obtained, learners confirmed or rejected LM beliefs, and a finance terminology teacher examined interaction scripts and the resultant LM. The article reports that "most of these beliefs were approved by both the learners and the teacher"; no effect size is printed.
"The study showed that, compared to the initial learner models (before the learners engaged in interactive open leaner modelling dialogue), the resultant learner models included more beliefs about the learner, and most of these beliefs were approved by both the learners and the teacher."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- STyLE-OLM benefited both more knowledgeable learners (reflective domain interactions) and less knowledgeable learners (inspecting and challenging their models) — related
- Instruments show conceptual inconsistency: the same terms label different competence aspects, and disciplinary origin does not significantly correlate with definition or terminology choice — related
- The interactive open learner modelling approach was suitable for dealing with cold start in user-adaptive systems (OWL-OLM trial) — related
