This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.

Posttest comparison of 135 Taiwanese undergraduates randomly assigned within intact classes to three gloss conditions or control. VocTest 1 means were 9.94 (L1-gloss-L2-ex, t = 4.441, p = .000), 9.58 (L1-in-text-gloss, t = 3.917, p = .000), and 8.07 (L1-MG-gloss, t = 2.656, p = .011) versus 5.48 for control, showing "significantly higher than the no-gloss control group".

"the VocTest 1 scores are significantly higher than the no-gloss control group as indicated by the t values, though the effects of the L1-MG-gloss condition are not quite as strong as the other gloss conditions"
