q3 i3 Participants with lower LICI (reflecting less GABAB-mediated inhibition, i.e. disinhibition) at rest showed better micro-offline consolidation at block T (r = −0.834, BF10 = 468). → Pasquale Cardellicchio & Sara Borgomaneri 2025

Experiment with 16 right-handed adults performing a sequential finger-tapping task with 10-s practice and 10-s rest blocks; at-rest pp-TMS indices were collected before learning. Bayesian correlation showed a negative LICI–micro-offline-T relationship ("R = −0.834; BF10 = 468"), i.e. "a lower level of GABA B neurotransmitter (disinhibition) have a better motor consolidation".
"Using Bayesian correlation matrix ana- lyses, we found very strong evidence toward the H1 for a negative rela- tionship between LICI and Micro-of fline-T learning ( R = −0.834; BF10 = 468 Table1;F i g .3), such that participants who showed a lower level of GABA B neurotransmitter (disinhibition) have a better motor consolidation"
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- In a Bayesian linear regression, micro-offline-T learning explains a moderate proportion of variance in LICI (R² = 0.69), with moderate evidence for its inclusion — related
- The GABAB–micro-offline correlation is significantly stronger than the corresponding GABAA (SICI) correlation — related
- No other neurophysiological measure (MEP, SICI, ICF, sICF) showed a significant correlation with micro-online or micro-offline learning — related
- Performance improvements during early motor skill learning occur predominantly during short rest periods (micro-offline gains), replicated in a large crowdsourced sample and in a laboratory study — related
