Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q2 i? In the reanalysis of Aldekhyl et al. (2018) data, AIC preferred a quadratic and BIC a linear model for the mental effort–workload relation; the quadratic term was statistically significant at α = 0.05 but the evidence was not strong. → Jimmie Leppink & Patricia Pérez-Fuster 2019

Reanalysis of repeated-measurement data (4 ultrasound scenarios per participant, 29 participants) from Aldekhyl et al. (2018); the criteria disagreed, and the quadratic term was significant: "F1, 106.565 = 4.142, p = 0.044, B = 0.576".
"The only study for which AIC and BIC indicate a different preference is Aldekhyl et al. (2018): AIC prefers Model 2 (quadratic: H 2) while BIC prefers Model 1 (linear: H 1). The difference in R2M between these two models is about 0.006 and the difference in df is 1. In Model 2, we find for the quadratic term: F1, 106.565 = 4.142, p = 0.044, B = 0.576, and 95% CI = [0.021; 1.131]."

Related Claims¶
- Mental effort relates to self-rated certainty in a cubic (declining–flat–declining) rather than linear pattern — related
- Mental effort relates to response time in a J-shaped quadratic rather than linear pattern — related
- Mental effort relates to article viewing time linearly; no evidence against the linear model was found — related
- Certainty predicts diagnostic performance; mental effort adds no predictive value beyond certainty — related
