Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q2 i? Condition (Agent vs. Non-Agent) had no significant effect on posttest scores or error rates after controlling for pretest scores, though pretest was a significant predictor of both. → Man Su 2025

q2 · i? · causal · r1
A between-groups classroom comparison of 49 9th- and 10th-grade students in the Agent (n = 24) or Non-Agent (n = 25) condition, analyzed with ANCOVA. The condition effect was null on both outcomes "after controlling for pretest scores"; pretest itself significantly predicted posttest (p < 0.001) and error rates (p = 0.030).
"ANCOVA results revealed that the intervention condition (Non-Agent vs. Agent) did not have a signi ficant effect on either posttest scores ( p = 0.189) or error rates (p = 0.668) after controlling for pretest scores."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- Pedagogical agents do not significantly affect learners' engagement (g = -0.02, non-significant) — related
- Pedagogical agents significantly improve learners' self-efficacy expectations (g = 0.29), with effects moderated by grade level, facial expressions, and reliability reporting — related
- Prior knowledge significantly predicted algebra posttest scores and learning gains, with high-prior-knowledge students scoring higher and low-prior-knowledge students gaining more — related
- Objective learning gains did not differ significantly by condition in the primary ANCOVA, but KBD showed a significant positive effect on learning gains in exploratory regressions accounting for learner covariates — related
