q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.

q3 i3 In Experiment 1, number-word knowledge related to expressive vocabulary when partialled for age, r(23) = .65, p < .01. → Negen 2012

Negen 2012¶
Negen, J., & Sarnecka, B. W. (2012). Number-Concept Acquisition and General Vocabulary Development. Child Development. https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1467-8624.2012.01815.x

Experiment 1 tested 26 children (mean age 3;7) with the Give-N task and the Woodcock-Johnson Picture Vocabulary Test in counterbalanced order. The printed partial effect size r = .65 ("r(23) = .65, p < .01") shows vocabulary relates to knower-level beyond age; the simple correlation was r(24) = .746.
"However, number-word knowledge was also related to expressive vocabulary when partialled for age, r(23) = .65, p < .01, meaning that the children with larger vocabularies tended to know more cardinal number-word meanings, independent of their age."
Discussion¶
Learner Variables¶
- Reading and Language — predictor: learners who differ on it differ in outcomes
- Vocabulary — predictor: learners who differ on it differ in outcomes
Related Claims¶
- Both receptive and expressive vocabulary correlate with number-word knowledge independent of age, replicating Experiment 1. — related
- Vocabulary adds significantly to predicting knower-level after age, but age does not add after vocabulary, suggesting age does not mediate the vocabulary–number-knowledge link. — related
