Subclaims¶
Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i3 In Experiment 2, number-word knowledge related to expressive vocabulary independent of age, r(30) = .582, and to receptive vocabulary, r(30) = .546, both p < .01. → Negen 2012

Experiment 2 tested 33 children (mean age 3;9) with Give-N, the Woodcock-Johnson expressive test, and the added Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test III for receptive vocabulary. Printed effect sizes r = .582 (expressive) and r = .546 (receptive) were both significant, addressing whether only expressive vocabulary relates to number-word knowledge.
"Replicating Experiment 1, results showed that number-word knowledge was related to expressive vocabulary, independent of age, r(30) = .582, p < .01. The same relation held for receptive vocabulary, r(30) = .546, p < .01."
Discussion¶
Learner Variables¶
- Reading and Language — predictor: learners who differ on it differ in outcomes
- Vocabulary — predictor: learners who differ on it differ in outcomes
Related Claims¶
- Number-word knowledge is strongly correlated with expressive vocabulary, independent of age, in children aged 30–60 months. — related
- Vocabulary adds significantly to predicting knower-level after age, but age does not add after vocabulary, suggesting age does not mediate the vocabulary–number-knowledge link. — related
- Children's knower level of verbal number words is cross-sectionally associated with ANS acuity even after controlling for age and sex — related
