Subclaims¶
Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i? Children with PoorAF scored similarly to controls on word, object, country, and proverb selection tasks, refuting general semantic memory and verbal routine deficit hypotheses. → Mussolin 2008
Evidence¶
Mussolin 2008¶
Mussolin, C. and Noël, M-P. (2008). Specific Retrieval Deficit from Long-Term Memory in Children with Poor Arithmetic Facts Abilities. The Open Psychology Journal. https://doi.org/10.2174/1874350100801010026
q3 · i? · associational · r2
Separate analyses by task following the group-by-task ANCOVA showed no significant group differences on word, object, country, or proverb selection tasks (all p > .05). The proverb task was more difficult for both groups but showed no group difference.
"the children who performed poorly and normally on the multiplication fluency task did not differ on the three tasks requiring them to retrieve information from long-term semantic memory. They scored similarly when asked to select the word or the object associated with a target and when asked to select the country corresponding to the target capital name"
Discussion¶
Learner Variables¶
- Arithmetic Fact Retrieval — predictor: learners who differ on it differ in outcomes
Related Claims¶
- A factor analysis separates the multiplication selection task from the other selection tasks on a second component — related
- Fourth graders with poor arithmetic-fact abilities (PoorAF) and matched controls did not differ on a perceptual shape-matching speed task — related
- PoorAF and control children do not differ in error rates on the multiplication task, indicating the problems were not too difficult — related
- Children with poor arithmetic fact abilities are significantly slower than matched controls only on the multiplication selection task — related
- PoorAF children show a significant problem-size effect in multiplication RTs, with a marginally significant stronger problem-size influence than controls — related
- Verbally gifted adolescents with ADHD show poor recall and recognition on online memorization despite strong verbal fluency — related
- In Root's study, superior children (IQ 135+ younger, 120+ older) excelled normal children on all administered tests — related
