Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i? Among referred youth, the Processing Speed Index was significantly more impaired than Working Memory and General Ability indices after controlling for age, sex, and medication. → Braaten EB 2020

Mixed effects modeling in the LOGIC clinical cohort of 751 referred youth compared PSI, WMI, and GAI as a within-subjects factor, controlling for age, sex, and psychotropic medication. The main effect for cognitive domain was significant (Wald χ2 = 406.84, p < .001), with "PS Wald χ2was significantly more impaired than WM" and general ability.
"PS Wald χ2was significantly more impaired than WM (Mdifference = −1.5, p = .003) and general cognitive ability (Mdifference = −9.8, p < .001) among referred youth."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- All diagnostic groups of referred youth, including those without full diagnoses, show processing speed below the population norm — related
- Psychosis, ASD, and ADHD-Inattentive Type independently elevate risk for slow processing speed relative to referred youth without diagnoses — related
- Slower processing speed in adults with ASD is associated with greater impairment on ADOS Communication and Reciprocal Social Interaction scores — related
- Full-scale IQ predicts reading comprehension more strongly than word reading, and working memory and processing speed remain significant predictors after IQ is controlled — related
- Children with developmental dyslexia show a processing speed impairment relative to controls — related
