Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i2 Conceptual understanding declined slightly but remained relatively stable from post-test to follow-up test approximately eight weeks later, independent of condition. → Flegr 2023

Post-to-follow-up mixed ANOVA in the randomized experiment, based on only n = 72 of the original 154 participants due to missing follow-up data. Students performed "slightly worse in the follow-up test" (partial η2 = 0.09); no condition effect or interaction emerged.
"The mixed ANOVA revealed a significant main effect of time, F(1, 69) = 6.94; MSE = 1109.68; p = .01; partial η2 = 0.09 (medium effect), suggesting that students performed slightly worse in the follow-up test (M = 57.42%, SE = 2.15) than in the immediate post-test (M = 62.89%, SE = 2.30)."
Discussion¶
Related Claims¶
- The order of video and virtual experiments (video-virtual vs. virtual-video) does not affect conceptual understanding in remote inquiry learning — related
- Guided inquiry learning with virtual and video experiments during Covid-19 remote schooling significantly improves seventh-graders' conceptual understanding in physics — related
- Seventh-graders in remote inquiry learning accurately monitor their own learning, with no differences between experimentation conditions — related
- Accuracy of experimentation shows no condition differences but a small condition effect and correlates strongly with conceptual understanding at post-test — related
- Combining a video experiment with a virtual experiment does not foster conceptual understanding more than a virtual experiment alone during remote schooling — related
