Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i2 More disturbed self-reported sleep is associated with worse inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility, and working memory in early primary school children. → Chen Y 2021

q3 · i2 · associational · r2
Zero-order correlation analysis in a cross-sectional study of 204 typically developing children (7.6–9.2 years) using the Sleep Self-Report and three EF tasks. The article reports "the more disturbed sleep was associated with worse EF abilities"; correlations ranged from r = −0.325 to −0.411, all p < 0.001.
"All the three kinds of EF were significantly related to sleep (for inhibitory control, r = −0.411, p < 0 .001; for cognitive flexibility, r = −0.325, p < 0 .001; for working memory, r = −0.374, p < 0.001), in dicating that the more disturbed sleep was associated with worse EF abilities."
Discussion¶
Learner Variables¶
- Sleep — predictor: learners who differ on it differ in outcomes
Related Claims¶
- Path analysis shows sleep disturbance relates to cognitive flexibility indirectly via inhibitory control and working memory, with a non-significant direct path — related
- Sleep education at school improves cognitive functioning in children — related
- Sleep's association with inhibitory control and working memory remains significant after controlling for the other EF components, but cognitive flexibility's does not — related
- Inhibitory control showed insignificant correlations with reading and early mathematics except kindergarten word problems — related
