Description¶
Days of Learning is CREDO's translation device for making statistical growth results accessible to non-technical audiences. Because statistical tools express growth "in technical terms that are not user-friendly to a general audience", CREDO equates a typical year of learning to a 180-day school year and reports extra or missing growth as days added to or subtracted from that base. In this report, growth in standard deviation units is transformed into days of learning for all presented graphs, while the appendix reports standard deviations so results can be assessed for statistical differences.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Annual state test scores across consecutive grades, from which average year-to-year learning is computed for each grade transition
Constraints¶
- The translation assumes a typical 180-day school year as the base unit
Target Learners¶
- K-12 students in Houston public schools
Target Learning Goals¶
- Annual academic growth in reading and mathematics
