Description¶
Visher et al. (2012), covering three of the six reviewed studies, report implementation costs that "varied dramatically across sites, ranging from a low of $211 per student to a high of $1,190 per student (expressed in 2011 dollars)", averaging $566 per student. About 43% of costs went to additional instruction (faculty planning time, collaboration, smaller classes), 24% to program support and student services, 17% to administration, and 16% to other services such as textbook vouchers.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Cost drivers include compensation for course planning and faculty collaboration time, smaller class sizes, program coordination, and student services such as case management and tutoring
Constraints¶
- No cost information is available for the other three studies in the report; the WWC treats cost-effectiveness discussion as beyond its scope
Target Learners¶
- Developmental education students at community colleges
Target Learning Goals¶
- Program implementation planning and resource allocation
