Description¶
ARC Core is a K–12 English and Spanish literacy curriculum developed by American Reading Company that organizes extensive reading, writing, research, and analysis into knowledge-building units integrating literacy with science, social studies, and literature.
Components¶
- ARC Core K-12 literacy curriculum with knowledge-building units: ARC Core is a K-12 English and Spanish literacy curriculum in which students develop agency and expertise "through extensive reading, writing, research, and analysis". It is organized as knowledge-building units integrating science, social studies, and literature content while developing literacy skills and vocabulary, with "four 9-week units per grade". Teachers receive new topically aligned materials each unit while instructional structures stay consistent across the year. (ARC Core evidence summary (2022))
- ARC digital tools: content delivery and performance management system, e-libraries, and educational games: ARC offers digital solutions supporting ARC Core, including "a content delivery and performance management system, e-libraries, and educational games". The tools integrate with all Learning Management Systems and support single sign on via Clever Instant Login and ClassLink One Click Login, and are accessible on any Internet-connected device with a browser supporting HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, and cookies. (ARC Core evidence summary (2022))
- ARC: a hubs-based K–12 AI and robotics education framework with a self-reinforcing mentorship loop: ARC organizes hands-on, mentor-led workshop events around regional hubs: primary hubs at colleges train undergraduate mentors via a credit-bearing course and host workshops for nearby K–12 teams, and mature school programs become secondary hubs that host workshops for other nearby schools. The article describes "a self-reinforcing education loop" in which primary hubs train undergraduates, undergraduates teach K–12 students, teams become self-sustaining, and mature teams host their own workshops, giving the framework potential for multiplicative and super-linear growth in mentorship capacity and geographic reach. Workshop content is adapted to age, experience, and competition level, from foundational programming for FLL teams to autonomy, computer vision, and AI for advanced teams. (Jacobson et al. (2026))
Claims¶
- In an ARC trial deployment, undergraduate mentors' retrospective pre-then-post ratings of teaching confidence and community connection increased substantially [+W]
- Indiana Markov simulation projects ARC reaches 74% of public K–12 schools and produces 992 robotics programs after 40 years at moderate optimism, versus 161 under natural growth [+W]
