Description

A self-report subscale of the Racism and Life Experiences Scale that measures the frequency of everyday race-related discriminatory experiences, developed for research with adolescents and other populations.

Components

  • Daily Life Experiences (DLE) scale for adolescent perceived racial discrimination frequency: The DLE is a self-report subscale of the Racism and Life Experiences Scale assessing "daily hassles or the frequency of 'microaggressions' because of race in the past year". Participants rated 18 discriminatory experiences (e.g., "Having your ideas ignored", "Not being taken seriously") on a 0–5 frequency scale. In this sample internal consistency was high at all waves (T1 α = .93; T2 α = .92; T3 α = .92), and the mean across items was computed at each time point. (Seaton Eleanor K. et al. (2009))
