Description¶
DaisyQuest is a computer-assisted early-literacy software package developed to provide phonological-awareness instruction to young children through story-based activities, feedback, speech, and progress reports.
Components¶
- DaisyQuest software bundle for phonological awareness instruction: DaisyQuest is a software bundle offering computer-assisted instruction in phonological awareness for children aged three to seven, framed in a fairy tale about searching for a friendly dragon named Daisy. It comprises two components (DaisyQuest and Daisy's Castle) plus the Undersea Challenge adaptive test, and "uses graphics and story lines to engage children in the learning process." Activities teach rhyming, matching beginning, middle, and ending sounds, blending phonemes, and counting sounds in words, with digitized and synthetic speech, tutorials, feedback, and statistical reports for parents and teachers. (DaisyQuest (2006))
- Undersea Challenge adaptive test bundled with DaisyQuest: Undersea Challenge is an adaptive assessment included with the DaisyQuest bundle that measures children's phonological knowledge and generates reports for adults. The report states: "Included with the program is an adaptive test called Undersea Challenge. This test measures children's knowledge of rhyming; beginning, middle, and ending sounds; and phoneme blending and segmenting." The software also generates statistical reports enabling parents and teachers to view children's performance. (DaisyQuest for Preschool Children (2006))
