Description¶
A Computer Science higher-education framework developed by Nicholas Micallef for structuring students' disclosure, explanation, and reflection on GenAI use in writing and coding coursework.
Components¶
- Frame GenAI declarations as reflective instruments rather than compliance artefacts, using granularity, task specificity, intensity, prompt transparency, and reflection over punishment: The framework is guided by five principles that "collectively shift declarations from compliance artefacts to reflective instruments": granularity over a binary yes/no; task specificity; intensity as well as presence (Minor, Moderate, Extensive); prompt-level transparency via brief explanations and example prompts; and reflection over punishment, framing the declaration "as a description of process, not an admission of guilt". The last principle responds directly to empirical evidence that students avoid declaring GenAI use when they perceive the form as a penalty mechanism. (Nicholas Micallef (2026))
