Description

Flight SOS is an interactive video English-as-a-foreign-language program co-produced by Gale et al. and the BBC, using branching scenes and embedded language supports for learners.

Components

  • Flight SOS interactive video program: Flight SOS, a co-production with the BBC, is an interactive video program applying many features of Montevidisco to English as a foreign language, following a Japanese businessman visiting the United States through immigration and customs, encounters with a female executive, a hotel clerk, an outspoken Texan, and business invitations. Helps available to the student include backing up and repeating a scene, "instantaneous feedback with a surrogate or model who appears on the screen" after the student attempts a response, a dictionary or glossary tracking words occurring in a scene with their definitions, and an explanation file in Nehongo. (Gale et al. (1985))
