Description¶
Learning Studios is a network of technology-equipped classrooms operated through HP and Microsoft's Reinvent the Classroom initiative, providing hardware, design-project guides, teacher training, professional development, and an online learning community.
Components¶
- NCTAF STEM learning studios with cross-curricular teams and STEM professional volunteers: NCTAF's STEM learning teams work in "STEM learning studios": intentionally cross-curricular teams of science, math, and technology teachers joined by scientists and engineers from government, business, and industry who co-design and implement project-based learning activities addressing learning challenges the teachers identify. Implementation begins with a three-day summer workshop and quarterly design sessions, typically teaching one inquiry-based project module per quarter. Launched in 2009 with a NASA grant, the model reached eight high schools in three Maryland districts as of Spring 2011. (Kathleen Fulton et al. (2011))
