Description¶
LiquidText is a tablet-based multiple-document reading and sensemaking application developed by LiquidText that lets learners view, annotate, link, and synthesize information across documents.
Components¶
- LiquidText multiple document reading application on iPad Pro: LiquidText is a reading application for tablets that "includes several additional functions adapted to working with multiple documents". Its screen areas support navigation (overview of documents), simultaneous viewing of up to three documents with highlighting, and a workspace in which learners can "group and link extracted information to construct an integrated understanding" and write the task product. In the experiment it was used on a 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a stylus with a set of five partly conflicting documents on sun exposure and health, under guidance, access-only, and non-guidance conditions. (Jordan Lombard et al. (2021))
Claims¶
- Guided use of a multiple document reading application yields higher multiple document comprehension than access-only, unguided, or traditional pdf viewer use [+M]
- Students guided to use LiquidText show lower acceptance of tablets for multiple document work than controls despite better performance [-M]
