Description¶
MPathic-VR is a computer-based virtual-human conversation simulation for healthcare learners, developed for practicing and assessing advanced intercultural and interprofessional communication skills.
Components¶
- MPathic-VR virtual human conversation simulation for advanced healthcare communication training: MPathic-VR is a computer-based system in which healthcare learners "talk with virtual humans" — intelligent conversational agents with human appearance — in intercultural and interprofessional scenarios. Learners choose among three responses per exchange, are recorded for verbal and nonverbal behavior, receive a personalized after-action review with video of their nonverbal behaviors, and repeat each scenario. Analyses of learner data drive assessment, feedback, and real-time variation of virtual human behavior. (Using a computer simulation for teaching communication skills: A blinded multisite mixed m)
Claims¶
- Second-year medical students improve their intercultural and interprofessional communication performance between first and second run-throughs of MPathic-VR scenarios [+M]
- MPathic-VR-trained students achieve significantly higher composite scores than computer-based learning students on a subsequent advanced communication OSCE, several days later [+M]
- Students trained with MPathic-VR report significantly more positive attitudes toward their learning experience than computer-based learning students [+M]
