Description

A publicly available dataset produced by the University of Oxford that records daily government COVID-19 policy responses, including stringency and school-closure measures, across countries.

Components

  • OxCGRT stringency index and weighted school-closure duration measures: The study draws two explanatory measures from the Oxford COVID-19 Government Response Tracker (OxCGRT), a publicly available dataset collecting daily information on pandemic policy measures. The stringency index is described as "a continuous scale ranging from 0 (none of these measures are in place) to 100 (all policy measures are in place affecting the largest portion of the population possible)", averaged from January 2020 to February 2022. School-closure duration is a weighted sum of required closure days (weights 0 to 1 by geographic and sectoral scope), excluding weekends and academic holidays. These measures are combined with ICCS civic outcome scales in country-fixed-effects regressions. (Kennedy et al. (2026))
