Description

Panamath, the Psychophysical Assessment of Numerical Approximation, is a free software tool developed by the Halberda Lab for administering non-symbolic numerical comparison tasks and recording accuracy and response time in children and other learners.

Components

  • Panamath non-symbolic numerical comparison task for assessing ANS acuity in young children: Panamath (the Psychophysical Assessment of Numerical Approximation) is a non-symbolic numerical comparison task administered as a free-download software tool. Children see spatially separated blue and yellow dot arrays on a laptop screen and indicate which color has more dots; arrays are visible for 2000 ms, with accuracy and response time recorded via an experimenter keypress. In this study children completed six practice trials followed by 60 test trials with dot numbers from 4 to 15 across four ratio bins, controlling for dot size and cumulative surface area across trial halves.
